A STORY FOR
YOU (part 9)
The moon was still on the purplish blue night sky
surrounded by clusters of stars, all discreetly surrounding the moon as if they
were admiring its beauty but unknowingly realize that their presence enhances
the magnificent picture on a whole. The chattering in the diner was like a song
gone wrong, badly written and composed. The dimly lit diner was foggy from
cigarette smoke coming from the corner where biker men in leather jackets and overly
tight black pants gather round the pool table.
Recognizing the girl opposite, I nodded my head,
trying to avoid eye contact with her. How is it that I could actually meet up
with her again? What are the odds? I reached out my hand, trying to grab
something to hide my face behind. Luckily, I found a menu. Using it, I
positioned it upright and pretended to read it carefully with my head hidden neatly
behind it. Phew, that was close! My eyes were still slightly damp but these
series of events have managed to take my mind off some things.
Deep in my thoughts, I was snapped back into
reality when a voice greeted me from beside the table. Still having my head hidden
behind the menu, I managed to get a glimpse of the person standing beside me
now. She was wearing a full dress in pink, had an almost perfect silhouette and
had let her long blonde hair loose with her skinny hands tugged in her pockets.
“Do you actually realize that you’re reading the
menu… up-side-down?” the sarcastic comment followed immediately by a slight
giggle. She stretched her skinny hands forward, snatched the menu out of my
grasps and flipped it over before returning it to me. I was startled for a
moment. What an odd coincidence seeing her here! I thought.
Hazel is her name. She was my first crush (or
first love, you can say so). I had been admiring her from the first day I laid
my eyes on her unquestionable beauty but never managed to fork up enough of my
guts to approach her. I was in the 5th grade then. What’d you
expect? I was a shy kid with just a few close friends who were mostly guys. Girly
girls at that age somehow had ‘cootie-monster’ diseases of some sort. Us guys never
dared touch them.
By the last year of junior high school, everyone,
and I mean, EVERYONE, knew about my huge crush on her – including her! Sadly, I
still never got the opportunity to approach her. But somehow, on the last day
of junior high, my mom had to run some errands and therefore couldn’t pick me
up from school on time. I wandered around the grey school halls, savoring what
memories I had left as it was practically my last chance to do so. As I stepped
out the school doors, there she stood in front of me, gracefully as a swan. My
eyes gazed at her in amazement, once again, at her ravishing beauty.
There were only a few students left. Some were sitting
at the steps, some patrolling the school building, and other, younger students,
were running around with friends. Hazel and I seemed to be the only ones
standing alone at the top of the stairway. In a split second, I accumulated just
enough courage from every part of me to walk right up to her, reach out my hand
and gently tap her right shoulder. She turned around, swinging her hair back,
and looked at me with surprise.
It was really something different. Looking at her
from afar and close up like that was really a new experience. Up close, I could
admire the sparkle in her light blue eyes and the shine on her long, straight,
blonde hair which I never really noticed before.
Silence
filled the air around the both of us for a moment. I was carefully arranging
words in my head as to what I was about to say to her, my dream gal. I knew
that I had to plan every single word and sentence that was about to escape my
mouth perfectly. That was the moment, the moment of truth. I was about to be a
man! I looked deep into her eyes and said, “Hazel.. Umm.. I was just wondering,
if you weren’t… weren’t doing anything these few day.. Umm… Maybe we could,
like.. Like go out or somethin’?? I don’t know..”
What the hell was that?!?! I cursed myself. That must have been
practically the worst pick up line anyone has ever said in the history of lame,
sucky pick up lines. At that point, my confidence level dropped to the
point even lower than me feet. I totally choked!
Hazel smiled at me as she brushed her hair behind
her ears with her skinny fingers. “I’m sorry but I think I’ll have to pass the
offer this time.”
I was devastated. I was torn apart. As I heard
her said those words, my heart sank to the bottom of my stomach. Was it because
of the lame pick up line? I wondered. Just about then, I heard a familiar car
honk. It was my mom! The extremely awkward high-pitched honk was like sweet
music to my ears at that moment. Unable to bear the embarrassment, this was my
chance to make a quick getaway. I hurriedly said my goodbyes and rushed off
into the car. I had never felt as embarrassed as that particular moment in my
life before.
After that day, we both went off to different
high schools. I was glad I didn’t have to face the shame facing her everyday in
the same school. Instead, I never saw her ever again – TILL NOW!!
“Nickkk!!!…” I was summoned back into reality as
Hazel’s calls slowly became clearer.
My eyes roamed around the diner. Putting down the
menu on the table, I slowly lifted my head up, trying not to make much eye
contact with her.
“It’s me, Hazel! Have you actually forgotten
about me already?”
“Hazel!!..” I faked my excitement. “Of course
not! The memory of you is still very fresh in my head.” Too fresh indeed! I
thought.
“Oh really? Then why were you hiding behind that
thing?” she pointed at the untouched menu I left on the table.
“Was I? Oh, I didn’t notice.” I joked. I stood up
and greeted her. Instead, she embraced me with a warm hug. I’d have to admit
it, it was rather comfortable.
She then took a seat at my table beside me. “Remember
the last time we saw each other?” she chuckled.
“That was so long ago. I can hardly remember” I
lied.
“Yeah, very long ago.” We were interrupted by the
waitress. She put my coffee on the table and collected the bill before leaving
back to the counter.
“You asked me out, remember?” Hazel continued. I
was somewhat surprised by her straightforwardness.
“Umm.. Yeah,, I think so.” I could feel myself
blushing slightly. “But you turned me down, remember?”
“Hey!! I have a perfectly good reason for that!”
“Oh??”
“But you didn’t stick around long enough to hear
it. I didn’t get the chance to explain..”
“You mean you actually wanted to go out with me?”
“Ermm.. Kinda…”

A STORY FOR
YOU (part
Screeeechh…
I pulled up the car by the sidewalk in disbelief. All the lies. All the
deceits. I couldn’t believe that this little angel would be so capable of lies
like these. All these time we were together, was it all just lies too? I was
overwhelmed with all these thoughts that clouded my mind. She took me by the
hand. I shrugged it away.
”Michelle, why? ” I cried out.
”Wait, Nick. Let me explain! ” tears started flowing
from her eyes.
”No! ” I was infuriated. ”All these time. All
the moments we were together…”
”Nick, I love you. I really love you! ”
”Lies! ” I refused to believe anything she had
to say then. ”Was it a lie when you said that you loved me? Was it a lie when
you told me that you wanted to be with me? Did it mean nothing to you when I
poured my heart out to you? ”
”Of course it does! ” she broke down in tears.
”Nick…”
”Get out. ”
”Please, let me explain! ”
”I don’t want to listen to anymore of your lies.
Please, just get out! ” I couldn’t hold myself back any longer and found tears
rolling down my cheeks too.
Silence filled the atmosphere for what seemed
like an eternity but was only just a few seconds. The both of us were sitting
in the car, sobbing. The only sounds that could be heard were the music from a
passing car and the chirps of birds resting on the trees above. I didn’t dare
look her in the eye.
”You can walk to the prom from here. School’s
just a few blocks down. ” I broke the silence.
”Fine. But just so you know.. ” she opened the
car door and paused for a moment or two. ”I didn’t lie when I said that I
loved you.”
”Whatever! ”
She got down from the car and I sped off, leaving
her behind. I could see her staring at my car from the rearview mirror as I
drove down the road. Alone in the car now, tears started pouring out from my
eyes like tap water. I couldn’t hold my emotions back. I was driving like a mad
man intoxicated with alcohol, only, I was pretty much sober. Luckily, there
were no policemen anywhere near.
After speeding for a few moments, I brought my
vehicle to a halt in the school parking lot. I gazed out the car window at the
school entrance. It was beautifully decorated. A big banner with the words
‘Roosemont High School Prom’ encrypted on it was hung above the doors. Balloons
were used to brighten up the atmosphere and ribbons were hung everywhere.
However, this still did not lighten up my mood.
I saw couples walking into the century-old
building, hand in hand. So lovely, they were. I was somewhat jealous of them.
My mind was completely off focus. I couldn’t stop thinking about Michelle and
what she had just told me. I decided to ditch the prom. I was feeling really
down in the dumps and partying would probably just make me worse. Besides, who
would actually notice my absence, right? I turned the radio on - hopefully a
sad tune was on to suit my mood. No luck. I turned it back off after flipping
through a few miserable radio stations.
I started my engine and took off. I didn’t care
where I was headed to. I just needed some time. Some space. Some quiet time. Something!
Just something to keep her off my mind. Without noticing, I’ve reached the other
end of town. I pulled up by a diner, killed the engine, walked in and took a
seat at a table by the glass wall after placing an order for a cup of coffee.
Then, out of the corner of my slightly damp eyes, a figure sitting at a table
directly opposite attracted me. As she turned around, I then recognized her. I
couldn’t believe it. It was….

A Story For You (Part 7)
January 27, 2007
Hey! Here’s the long awaited sequel to part 6. Sorry it took so long to be published. Anyway, here it is! =D

A STORY FOR
YOU (part 7)
” What?!! ” I gasped out in disbelief. I
couldn’t believe what my two little ears were feeding me. She’s not moving? It
can’t be. What does this mean? She’s lying? Oh my God, WHAT’S GOING ON HERE? ”
I’m sorry? Did you just say that you guys aren’t moving? ” I sat up straight
and prepared for the worst.
” Who ever gave you that impression? ” curious,
he asked.
” Umm.. It’s just that the other day, Miche…..
”
Mrs. Sanders, Michelle’s mother, popped up out of
nowhere and interrupted. ” Gentlemen, I think Michelle is all ready now. ”
she giggled.
Mr. Sanders got up before I could finish my
sentence and walked to the bottom of the stairway to greet his daughter as she
came down. I peered at him and noticed he was suddenly stunned, speechless. I
brought myself onto my two bare feet and dragged myself beside him. As I lifted
my eyes, I was embraced by the sight of an angel descending from the heavens
above.
All my thoughts at that particular moment somehow
just faded away into the stillness of the night. I too, was stunned,
speechless. I couldn’t help but to stare at her. Her beauty surpassed that of a
full moon on a clear starry night in the skies. She gracefully tip-toed her way
down the flight of stairs like a princess. Her two small, fragile hands lifting
up her skirt as her hair, let down, swayed from side to side. She gazed at me
and smiled. I smiled back in amazement.
” Wow.. You look.. You look so.. ” I couldn’t
finish my sentence. I was too overwhelmed by her beauty that I couldn’t even think
straight.
” Great? Amazing? Flourishing? SUPERB? ”
Michelle smirked.
” Umm. Yeah, all of those! ”
” You don’t look too bad yourself. ” she added.
” Oh really? ” correcting my tie, I continued, ”
Well, when have I ever looked ‘bad’? ” I joked.
Both her parents standing at the side watching
the ‘drama’ smiled at each other and then decided that the two of us had better
left. We agreed and stepped outside after bidding farewell to them. I showed
Michelle to my car parked outside the gate and let her inside. It was my father’s
car. A metallic, dark blue Land Rover which was about two years old. I started
the engine and roared off into the night.
” Feel free to listen to whatever you like ” I
said, pointing to the radio between us. She started twisting the radio gauge as
if searching for a particular song. Then as she heard the intro tune to ‘Hero’
by Mariah Carey, she stopped. There was nothing I would rather not hear more
than a Mariah Carey song at that moment. To top things off, she started
singing, off-key. I was, however, amused by the way she sang it.
” Maybe we should just talk for awhile. ” I
blurted as I switched off the radio. She frowned. Suddenly, I remembered the
little incident back at Michelle’s house a few moments ago. It came to me like
a sudden blow to my head with a baseball bat. All my feelings of happiness
shattered into a million and one pieces.
” Hey, Michelle. ”
” Mm-hmm? ” she turned and gazed at me with
those sweet, innocent eyes of hers. It broke my heart.
” You’re not really moving out, are you? ” I
questioned her.
” Huh? ” she startled. ” What do you mean? ”
” I spoke with your dad awhile ago. He told me
that you guys were never intending on moving. ” I could see her getting upset
through the tip of my eyes as I continued driving. There was silence for a
moment. I could hear the rustling sound of the engine and the squeaks made by
the wheels of the car going over a road bump.
Finally, she voiced out. ” Nick, I’m really,
really, really sorry! I lied… ”

A STORY FOR
YOU (part 6)
Ever since that day in the park, everything just
fell into place. It was like everything settled itself down and showered our
lives with endless happiness and prosperity. We were happy. We were overjoyed.
But most importantly, we were together. I held her close. Never wanting to let
her go, ever! By then, I was completely sure of my feelings towards her. I
loved her.
We spent almost everyday together - since school
had just ended and the winter holidays had begun. One day when there was a
heavy storm outside, I rushed all the way to her house just to spend some time
with her. We sat by the fire pit, turned on the radio and listened to songs we
both loved. Michelle, who was feeling a little bit drowsy, laid her head on my
shoulder as we sit on the couch in front of the fire.
” I wish we could be like this forever ” I
pushed her hair over her ears and whispered into them.
” Yeah, me too! ” she repositioned her head on
my shoulder to a more comfortable spot.
” Have you ever wondered what would become of us
when you move? ” I finally asked what I had been keeping inside me all these
while.
” Nick? ” she lifted her head up as she gazed
into my eyes. I could see her eyes starting to get wet. Looking at her this way
made me scared. So scared, that my heart started beating faster and faster.
” What’s wrong Michelle? ”
” I need to tell you something.. ” she started
rubbing her eyes. ” I…… ”
Just as she was about to say it, Joshua came
running down the stairs. Both Michelle and I were pulled back. She turned
around and started wiping away her tears. Joshua ran to my side and grabbed my
hand.
” Nickk!!.. ” he pulled my hands trying to get
me off my seat. ” Come up, I wanna show you something! ”
” Okay, okay. Calm down. You go on ahead, I’ll
come up in a while. ” I sent him upstairs before turning back to Michelle. She
was sitting silently facing the fire. ” You were saying? ”
” It’s okay. I kinda forgot what I wanted to
say. ”
” Aww.. Come on. Just say it. ” I persuaded.
” Hey, you’re picking me up this Friday, right?
” she changed the topic. ” It’s prom night, remember? ”
I sensed something amiss but decided that if she
didn’t want to say anything about it, I wouldn’t force her into telling me. ”
Of course I remember. How could I have forgotten? ” I replied.
She lightened up and continued, ” Well, lets go
up. Joshua’s probably wondering where you are by now. ”
November 24, 2006. Prom night.
I reached her house a little earlier then
expected. She was still upstairs changing into her dress when I arrived. Her
dad let me into the house after greeting me at the front door. He showed me
into the living room and offered me a seat. I was never nervous in front of him
but today was somehow different. My palms were sweaty and I felt a little
awkward but at the same time excited too.
” So.. When are you guys moving? ” I asked.
” Moving? ” he seemed rather confused.
” Yeah.. Aren’t you guys moving upstate? ”
” No…… ”

A Story For You (Part 5)
December 11, 2006
Part 5 is quite a long part. This is because i wont be here for 9 days. So till i’m back, enjoy this part. =D

A STORY FOR
YOU (part 5)
November 18, 2006.
It was a Saturday. I stood outside Michelle’s house
door at precisely 5.37pm. She opened the door just a few seconds after I had
rung her doorbell - I wondered if she was already waiting at the door before I
got there. She took a step forward, gave me a warm hug and welcomed me into the
house. As I stepped into the house, her brother, Joshua, who was only 10,
excitedly screamed, ” Hey, Nick!! Wanna play? ”. He was sitting in the living
room floor arranging some toys to be played.
Joshua and I used to play around when we were
younger. I would go to Michelle’s house and the three of us, sometimes four -
as Matthew would follow me occasionally, would run around the house and play
‘police and thief’ together.
” Hey, Josh! ” I called back, ” Nah, it’s ok.
I’m goin’ out with your sis in a while. ”
” Oh, ok. Then come again another day so we can
play!! ”
” Haha… Sure!.. ” I replied. Michelle turned
to me and gave me a sweet smile as she passed me her purse.
” Nick, hold my purse for awhile. I gotta go to
the bathroom. Be back in a jiffy!.. ” she turned and headed for the bathroom
which was at the back of her house.
Just as she got out of sight, I accidentally
dropped the purse. Some of the things inside splattered onto the ground around
it. Hurriedly, I kneeled down to retrieve everything. Whilst doing so,
something caught my eye. It was a medication
bottle. On it wrote : Gleevec. ” What in heaven’s name is Gleevec? ” I
thought. Suddenly, I heard the bathroom flush. Afraid that she might think I
deliberately checked her purse or something, I quickly dumped everything back
into the purse.
As I pulled the cover over the top of the purse,
she appeared behind me. ” What are you doing with my purse? ”
” Heyy!! I was just umm.. ” I stumbled across
my words. ” I was admiring your purse! ”
” Oh? ” she grabbed the purse away from my
hands. She looked at it for a second or two and then continued, ” Whatever..
Come on, let’s get goin’. ”
” Okay. ” I agreed. Before I got out the door,
I turned around and waved Joshua goodbye. He smiled and waved back with a Spiderman toy
in his hand.
After we had gotten out of the house, we walked
to a nearby Starbucks. The weather was getting cooler as winter arrived and
small snow flakes descended from the clouds above onto our snow caps. I could
tell that Michelle was cold as she was hugging herself so I threw an arm around
her and pulled her closer to share the warmth of our bodies. Upon reaching
Starbucks, we went to the counter ahead and ordered our drinks - I had a cappuccino
while Michelle got a warm mocha latte. After collecting our drinks, we sat at a
table beside the huge glass wall.
” So.. ” Michelle started, ” The prom is next
week. Did anyone ask you to the prom yet? ”
” Erm.. Sadly, no. ” I tore open a sugar packet
and poured it into my drink. ” What about you? Anyone asked you out yet? ” I
looked up at her as I stirred my cappuccino.
” Actually, yeah.. Someone did ask me. ” she took a sip of her
latte and continued, ” But I turned him down. ”
” Oh.. How come? ”
” Well. I figured you were gonna bring me.
Right? ” a smiled spread across her face.
” How would you know? ” I jokingly answered. ”
But if you’re dying to go to the prom with me, I might just bring you!.. ” I
giggled.
She laughed silently and nodded. ” Fine. You can
bring me. ” We smiled at each other as we took another sip of our drinks.
After we left Starbucks, we walked to the park
and sat on one of the park chairs. We watched a few kids playing around in the
park as we sit side by side silently. The kids reminded me of the times when we
were little and how we met at the park. A smile came across my face as I
recalled our younger days. I turned to Michelle sitting by my side and to my
surprise, she was also looking at me. We stared at each other for awhile, not
saying anything. Then, I found myself slowly sinking towards her as she was to
me. I closed my eyes and finally, our lips met.

A Story For You (Part 4)
December 4, 2006
Hey.. Just for those of u who wondered how was Vietnam,
it was great! Haha. Okay, here’s part 4.. enjoy.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A STORY FOR
YOU (part 4)
" Hey.. So, I just wanted to say, umm.. Bout
that kiss, or whatever.. Umm.. Thanks! Or somethin’ like that. ”
” Heh.. Your welcome!.. ” I could hear her
giggling over the phone. Her voice was sweet and high-pitched throughout
our conversation over the phone. I called her after I had gotten back to ‘babysit’
my brother who was actually old enough to take care of himself. But I guess he
hadn’t gotten any consent from our mother
” So.. I was wonderin’. Tomorrow is a weekend.
And, umm.. ” I choked.
” Are you trying to ask me out or something? ”
she somehow read my mind, saying what I had wanted to.
” Erm.. Yeah. That’s it. ” I continued, ” But
you know, if you don’t want to you don’t have to.. ”
” Don’t be silly!.. I’d love to! ” she
interrupted.
” Great!! So, umm.. I’ll come around 6? ”
” Sure.. ” she had the tone of an excited
little girl.
We hung up after a little more chit-chat and I
danced my way to the couch in the living room. I threw myself on the couch
creating a low thumping sound as my brother, Matthew, walked into the room. He
could see the look on my face - as if something really good had happened.
Without noticing that he was staring at me and practically studying me
carefully, I leaned down and stared at the ceiling with a big smile on my
usually sad, pathetic face.
” What are you smiling about? ” Matthew asked
curiously.
” Umm, nothing! ” finally realizing his
presence, I tried to come up with some sort of excuse. ” I heard that if you
smiled more often, you’ll do better in your grades. So I just wanted to give it
a try. ”
” Yeah, right.. ” he answered sarcastically. He
ignored me and continued upstairs into his room. I remained seated on the
couch. Then the thought came to me like a sudden blow to my head :
” She’s moving, you moron!! ” But then I
wondered, ” So what? If I don’t give us a try, I would never forgive myself!
”
The next day we went out on our ‘date’ - if that
was even called a date. I reached her house around 6, just as promised. She
turned up looking rather differently. She wore a yellow dress and again, tied
her hair up into a neat bun. She looked really amazing that day and I swore I couldn’t
take my eyes off her. Well, literally. We didn’t really go on a fancy date or
anything but we enjoyed ourselves. After dinner, we walked to the park and sat
beside the water fountain in the middle of the park. We talked about
everything, from shoes, to parents, to our childhood.
Since that
night, our relationship grew stronger with each passing day. But somehow, the
fact that she will be moving away remained in my thoughts. It made me afraid,
afraid that I might lose her anytime. Without even knowing it, she might be
gone in an instance.
Though all the outings with her, she never once
brought up the topic or acted as if she was about to move. Instead, she made
full use of every time we were together. We went to places we never went before
and enjoyed ourselves like we never had before. Sometimes I wondered if she was
hiding things from me. But what the heck? I decided that I’ll just spend all
the time we have left together and enjoy our moments together till the very
end.

A Story For You (Part 3)

Sorry u had to wait so long for part 3. Anyways, here it is..

A STORY FOR YOU (part 3)
As you can tell, I was completely shocked by the sudden news she told me. The both of us stopped in our tracks. I could swear I saw my life pass me by - literally. I stood there for almost a minute and a half. I didn’t know what to think, or maybe I just couldn’t. Finally, some of my conscience came back to my oval-shaped head.
" How could this happen? And what great timing, just when I realised I might have feelings for her. Damn this sucks! " I whispered to myself.
" I’m sorry? Did you just say something? " Michelle asked.
" Huh? " realising that I almost said that out loud, I resumed " Umm, no.. I was just wonderin’, when are you leavin? "
" I don’t really know.. My dad hasn’t given us a fixed date. " her tone was low and sad. " But I’m pretty sure that we’ll be leavin’ before prom. "
" Oh.. Well, that sucks.. " I continued walking as she followed by my side. There was silence for a moment.
" Hey, Nick? " she turned and stared at me with those big, blue eyes of hers as we were walking.
" Yeah? " I answered trying not to blush.
" Do you love me? "
" HUH?? " I was stunned by her question. My heart leaped in anxiety as I tried to lie to her. " Umm… Course I do.. I mean, your like, like my best friend. And.. As a friend, o.. of course I love you.. "
" Oh? Is that so? " she seemed almost disappointed. Her head nodded down.
But how could this be? Does this mean she loved me too? These questions were left unanswered in my head as I continued walking her home. Along the journey, I caught her practically staring at me and then turning around pretending to be looking at something else when I turned to her. Were these signs that she could actually be in love with me? Or is my mind just playin’ games on me? I really didn’t know.
Just as we reached her house, my cell phone started to ring. It was a message from mom. It read: "Nick, come home now! I have to go out and your bro needs babysitting. " I couldn’t believe what bad luck I had that day. First, it was the news that Michelle was moving. Then, the total agony of having to lie to her when I said I didn’t love her. Now this? Just as I was getting a clue that Michelle might actually have feelings for me, I had to go home to babysit my little brother.
I decided that I would walk her to the door before actually going back home. Upon reaching the door, i turned and gazed at her. I could tell that she was really sad. But what I couldn’t figure out was whether she was sad about her having to move or the fact that I just said I didn’t love her.
" Well, I guess I’d better be leavin’. My mom needs me at home to babysit. " I explained. She smiled and out of a sudden, leaned towards me and gave me a peck on my cheek. I was surprised. I was speechless. She turned and ran into her house, slamming the door behind her. I had no idea what had just happened. But it felt great! " What was that for? " I wondered.
** End of part 3 **
- Part 4 will be out abit late as well. I will be in Vietnam for a few days. Hehe.. Again, hope u enjoyed this part.
A Story For You (part 2)

Thanx for your comments. Heres part 2…

A STORY FOR YOU (part 2)
The next morning was just the same. I woke up at 7 and did my morning ritual - however, this time I applied some gel on my hair and combed it neatly. Till today, I still have no idea why I wanted to comb up my hair that morning. After leaving my house, I noticed Michelle just arriving. Then it struck me - I was supposed to pick her up at her house and walk her to school. Her dad wasn’t free to send her off to school that day. " Crap, she’s gonna kill me. " i wondered.
" NICKK.. You lunkhead. Don’t tell me you forgot to pick me up today? " her eyebrows raised almost an inch higher.
" Michelle… " I used my ’sympathetic’ look to try and cool her down. " Of course I hadn’t. What kind of guy do you think I am? I just thought you would’ve wanted to sleep a little longer. "
" Aww.. How sweet of you. " she gave me a sarcastic look and continued, " Now lets get going before we actually miss our classes. "
I just followed her instructions so as not to make her anymore angrier than she already is. I could tell that she was trying to control her anger on me. I didn’t get it. She used to scream her lungs out at me if I was late for anything. Something was up. " Somethings bothering her? " I tried guessing what the problem was. I ignored it.
We took off from my house and started on our journey to school. It was the end of autumn and winter was drawing closer each day. The trees stood high and mighty. Their branches empty. Red and yellow leaves were spread on the floor making life a little bit more colorful. A soft and cool breeze brushed my face as I turned and glanced at Michelle. Her face was expressionless. She stared at the ground as we were walking, kicking the leaves in her path.
I controlled myself not to ask anything along the way to school in fear that it would make her worse. We were silent that morning walking side by side. I couldn’t take it any longer as the silence was killing me. Just as I was about to break the silence, she started mumbling to herself. I tried listening to what she was mumbling about but all I could make out was, " Dad… shift houses.. how.. tell him?.. " I was stunned for awhile there. I didn’t want to listen to anymore of that mumbling of hers. Then I started noticing her eyes. They were red as if she had been crying last night.
" Hey.. Is something bothering you? " I finally asked.
" Huh? " she snapped back into reality and gazed at me. " Umm.. Nope, I’m perfectly fine. "
" Well, you don’t look fine to me. Come on, I’ve known you long enough to know if somethings botherin’ you or not. "
" No, really! Nothings wrong with me!.. " she started to quicken her walking pace. I wanted to chase after her but something inside me held me back. " Give her time. " I consoled myself. I continued to tail her from behind. Watching her every move and trying to interpret her actions. After a few minutes of continuous walking, we reached the school compound. She walked up the stairs and entered the plain red building before me.
The rest of the day in school was the same as other days. She started to socialise more but never gave a hint about what was bothering her that morning. As I didn’t want to spoil her mood again, I never brought up the topic.
After schooling period had ended, I walked her back to her house. On the way back, she started to get moody again. I tried to raise a topic to change the mood of the situation we were in at that moment.
" Soo… About yesterday. Who are u gonna bring to the prom? " I asked curiously.
" No one. " She replied.
" Huh? i thought you had it all planned out? "
" I did. Till my dad told me that we’re moving upstate.. "
" What??…. "

A STORY FOR YOU (part 1)
She was the average "girl next door" type of girl. She had
straight brunette shoulder length hair which was usually tied up neatly
into a bun. She wasn’t the smartest of girls, or the prettiest either.
She was who she is, always being herself and never trying to be
something that she wasn’t just to please others. But best of all, she
was my best friend. Someone who consoled me and gave me hope when I was
down. Cared for me when noone else did. Who is she? She is Michelle.
It all happened when we first saw each other in the playground.
We started of as playground buddies and slowly discovered that we were
living rather closely to each other. She was just less than a block
down from my house. As time grew and us being humans, we matured. All
those while, never letting anything to come between our everlasting
friendship. Since we were kids back then, "love" never came into the
picture. But thinking about it now, I’m kinda glad it didn’t. Cause I
was never prepared for what was about to happen in the future. Back
then, we thought we could be friends forever. Or at least never be
apart from each other. How we were wrong. So very wrong.
November 9, 2006. That is the date our story actually begins.
We were seventeen. Teenagers eager to know the world and hungry
for knowledge - well, at least thats what our parents thought! My
birthday just passed a few days back and we were sitting on my homemade
swing on my front yard. Halfway through the conversation, i started
noticing her beauty. Her eyes sparkled and her hair wasn’t tied up,
surprisingly. As I was admiring her beauty, she suddenly caught me
practically staring at her.
" Nick!.. Your not listening. Your staring off into space. AGAIN!"
" Oh, was I? Sorry." I didn’t know what else to say. I had this
sudden jump in my heartbeat rate. It was as if I had just ran 10 yards
non-stop.
" Hey, the winter holidays are coming up! You know what that
means.. PROM!!" she was so excited that she started to rock herself
back and forth on the swing. " So.. Who are you gonna ask to the prom?"
" Oh, erm.. I’m not sure. I haven’t really thought about it yet."
" WHAT?? You’re nuts. I mean, prom is like one of the most
important events of your highschool life. How can you not have thought
about it yet?"
" I dunno. It just never slipped through my mind I guess." I was
trying to cover up my embarrassment and my lie. Of course i had thought
about it! It’s just that i was thinking about her!.. It was Michelle
that I wanted to ask out but I was kind of afraid that things might get
bad.
" NICKKK!!…." That was mom. " YOU’VE STILL GOT CHORES TO DO!"
She rushed out the door only to be embraced by the sight of Michelle
sitting on the swing. " Oh, hello Michelle." The tune of her voice
lowered down instantaneously.
" Hello.." Michelle got up from the swing and continued, " I’m
sorry, I didn’t know Nick still had chores to do." She turned to me and
gave me a slight grin. I just smiled back trying to hide it from my mom.
" I guess I’d best be leaving. See in school tomorrow Nick."
Michelle grabbed her bag lying on the half-dead grass beside the swing
and took off. As I was walking back into the house, I couldn’t help but
to turn around and look at her. " Wow! I didn’t notice before but she’s
really gettin’ more beautiful." I silently thought. I spent the next
hour or so just thinking about her. Am I starting to fall for my best
friend? This can’t be happening…
** End of part 1 **
- hope u enjoyed the first part.. Tell me what do you think about it.
